Pastor Marty was born in 1965 in Colombia, South America where his parents served as missionaries.  He graduated from East High School in Sioux City, Iowa in 1984.  In 1988 he graduated from Luther College in Decorah with majors in English and Religion.  After college he served on a traveling youth ministry team with Lutheran Youth Encounter; and as a sidelight taste-tested donuts across a nine-state region.
In 1992, Marty married Marin Tollefson.  After receiving a Masters in Divinity from Luther Seminary in 1993, he began his first call at Grace Lutheran in Mankato, Minnesota.  In 1996, Marty and Marin moved to central Iowa where Marin served as Director of Music Ministries at Bethesda Lutheran in Ames and Marty served as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran in Ogden.  Their daughter Kari, is 8 years old and loves horses and reading.  Their son, Kristofer is 6 and loves trains and building things.  Marin is studying choral conducting at the University of Iowa.  As a family they enjoy biking, kayaking, and going on family vacations.
